The City of Cedar Park unveiled the draft of its new Comprehensive Plan at three community unveilings in July.  More than 200 citizens attended to see the new draft Plan, which identifies future goals for how our community will look and feel, and how new amenities and vacant land near your home might develop over time.

Mayor Matt Powell says, “We are in the home stretch of the comprehensive planning process, and so much hard work has been put in by the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee. As the public input previously received during this process was so valuable, we are adding an additional opportunity for citizens to gather and review the draft of the new Comprehensive Plan.”

The Comprehensive Plan is the "roadmap” for how Cedar Park will look and feel in the next 20 years. Some tangible results of the previous Comprehensive Plan include Cedar Park Center, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center, hotels, and destination shopping-dining-family entertainment at 1890 Ranch. The draft of the new Plan has been in the making for more than a year now, and was created through a collaborative effort between City staff and the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) which consists of citizens, business owners, Mayor Matt Powell and City Council Members Lowell Moore and Don Tracy. Together, the City and CPAC solicited public feedback via an interactive web application in which citizens engaged in an online conversation about their vision for the future of Cedar Park.

Because Cedar Park will be completely built out in the coming years, City leaders must carefully strategize how Cedar Park maximizes its potential in the future. The Comprehensive Plan helps guide leaders’ decision-making towards sensible, responsible, and purposeful goals. The new plan will focus on land use, attracting major employers, transportation and roads, public facilities such as parks and libraries, utilities, and our overall quality of life. The Comprehensive Plan is a public document that will allow the community share a unified vision and common goals when addressing the city’s growth and development. The City of Cedar Park adopted its first Comprehensive Plan in 1998, and updated it in 2006.

The new Comprehensive Plan is expected to be presented to City Council through the public hearing process and voted upon later this year. The exact dates are to be announced at a later time.
